You know a remodel has been going on too long when…

Home Depot stops carrying the paint that you were using!

After putting the first cabinet back together (see pic below) I decided the color was good to go and went to buy the rest only to discover that Home Depot no longer carries the Glidden Oil Based paint that I was using, or an oil based paint at all the moment…  fantastic.  After a brief period of panic I called the Glidden store and the guy was fairly confident he could match the Home Depot recipe.  Fingers crossed I go pick it up tomorrow.  Thankfully the cabinet I painted doesn’t touch any others so I’ll use what I have left on the insides of the cabinets so that the outsides will all be the same and I can touch up if needed later.  Phew.

One cabinet done, 16 more to go!

I’m hoping this will be a weekend of great progress.  In the meantime though I did want to share one portion of the project that is complete and I am loving it!  My spice cabinet…

Look at all that storage! I can find what I want!

The ironing board/spice closet is such a good pantry idea I may have to steal it. It would be wonderful in a bathroom, too, as a supplement to the medicine cabinet. In my utility I’m going to have a real built-in ironing board, just like this, and if a person had a craft or sewing room, wouldn’t a built-in board be handy there, too?

Please report back on the paint match. Sometimes the match is good and sometimes it isn’t. If Glidden can’t match it well enough try Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams. Each company’s pigments is unique and one may work better with your color than another.

Darn it! Some Formica I wanted has gone the way of the dodo, like your paint color.

    I forgot to say:

Another source of oil-based paint is Fine Paints of Europe online. I’ve had good luck with them matching another company’s paint. Their products are expensive but oh, such nice paint, and they are very helpful by phone.
